Blades earn season opening sweep of PA

It wasn't pretty, but it was still effective. The Saskatoon Blades moved to 2-0 on the season last night after a 6-5 win over the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.

Saskatoon dominated the first 40 minutes of hockey, before Prince Albert scored 3 goals in the last half of the third period to make the score closer than it should have been.

Josh Nicholls and Marek Viedensky both had 2 goals for Saskatoon, while Stefan Elliott also scored in his return from Colorado Avalanche camp. Captain Teigan Zahn had the other goal shorthanded, when the Blades were down 2 men.

Special teams was also a big story with Saskatoon going 3 for 6 on the powerplay and killing off 7 of 8 Raider chances.

Saskatoon now has a big break before playing Friday night in Brandon. They also play Regina and Brandon a 2nd time in a busy weekend of 3 games in 3 nights.
