It’s been a fairly slow week in the WHL (aside from a few trades and Portland continuing to rip up the Eastern Division).
Well, that changes tonight as Team WHL gets their chance to take on the Russians during the Subway Super Series.
Tonight’s game goes from Kamloops after team Russia won a pair of games against the QMJHL and lost a pair to the OHL.
It should be a fun and entertaining game that also features 3 Saskatoon Blades.
Defenseman Stefan Elliott is joined by forwards Curtis Hamilton and Darian Dziurzynski. (It sounds like Z will skate with Kamloops forwards Brendan Ranford and Chase Schaber).
Besides those three, there are a pair of players that I can’t wait to watch.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the first. He is very likely going to be the first player taken from the WHL in the NHL draft this coming June and I can’t wait to see what he can do on the ice tonight on a bigger stage than the regular season.
The other player is 17 year old defenseman Ryan Murray. Murray is off to a great start for the Everett Silvertips and is expected to potentially be a top 3 pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft. He just turned 17 and is still technically in his "16 year old season" in the WHL.

It doesn’t look like the game will be shown live on Sportsnet West, but it can be seen on Sportsnet Pacific starting at 9:00 Saskatchewan time.
