Blades fall short in Swift Current

It was a game that the Saskatoon Blades deserved to win, but didn't.

They came up short in Swift Current against the Broncos, falling 4-2.

The Blades outshot the Broncos 39-20 for the game.

After one period the Broncos led 1-0 after a goal from Trevor Cameron. In the second period Swift Current got two more goals 50 seconds apart after the Blades turned the puck over in the neutral and were caught changing on back to back shifts. Those goals game from Jordan Peddle and Trevor Cameron again.

Saskatoon would make a game of it in the third period.

They finally got some puck luck as a shot from the point by Josh Nicholls bounced off of goalie Mark Friesen and up and over him and into the net.

Not even 4 minutes later the Blades got another bounce as Brent Benson bounced a puck off a defender and into the Broncos goal to make it a one goal game. For Benson, it was his 11th goal of the year.

Saskatoon put on the pressure the last 5 minutes of the game, including pulling the goalie but the Broncos did what it took to keep the puck out. They blocked shots and deflected pucks. And if the puck got to the net, Friesen was there.

Adam Lowry hit the empty net with one second left to ice it.

Steven Stanford started in goal for Saskatoon and made 17 saves. Friesen stopped 37 of 39 to win.

Saskatoon was 1 for 3 on the PP, with Swift Current going 0 for 2.

The Blades now host Calgary tomorrow night.
