The Saskatoon Blades massive winning streak came to an abrupt end last night as they fell on the road in Brandon 7-4.
It was the return of Brayden Schenn to his old barn in Manitoba, and it was clear his old Wheat King teammates had this one circled on the calendar.
Brandon scored early and often as they led 1-0 after the first period.
The second period is when they finally broke the damn that was Steven Stanford. The Wheaties scored 4 more in the 2nd to lead 5-1 after two.
The Blades outscored Brandon 3-2 in the third period, but it was too little too late.
Saskatoon got goals from Darren Dietz, Stefan Elliott and a pair from Jake Trask. Elliott also added 2 assists and Brayden Schenn ended the game with 3 assists in a losing cause.
Brandon got great production from several of their key performers. Scott Glennie had 3 goals and an assist. Mark Stone had 2 goals and 4 assists. Shayne Wiebe had a goal and 2 assists. The other goal came from Matt MacKay.
Just a note that in the first period Schenn was giving a standing ovation by the crowd in Brandon. A great touch from the fans there as they honoured a player that did so much for that city.
The Blades have a chance to bounce back tonight as they host Medicine Hat. I will try and get a full preview up later this afternoon.
