It was a pivotal game in the Eastern Conference playoff series between the Blades and Raiders, and Prince Albert earned a massive 6-3 win.
The Raiders had the first period that they need to kick the game off, firing 22 shots on Steven Stanford.
In those 22 shots were 2 goals, by Igor Revenko and Brandon Herrod. The Raiders were an overwhelming force as soon as the puck dropped and those 2 goals ended up being key.
Saskatoon was the team that came out hot in period two, as Josh Nicholls scored 41 seconds in. Just over 3 minutes later it was Chris Collins scoring to make it a 2-2 game.
The Raiders pushed back and Jordan Rowley put them back in front 3-2 shortly after. That push back goal truly summed up the night for the Blades.
In the 3rd, the Raiders added 3 more, one via the open net. Matej Stransky scored for the Blades as the final was 6-3.
The biggest moment came late in the game when it was 4-3. Brayden Schenn skated towards a loose puck and would have had a nearly open cage. Before he got to the puck he was tripped from behind, but there was no call.
A few seconds later the Blades took a penalty and eventually the Raiders got the 5th goal to put it out of reach.
The Raiders truly did get the breaks tonight, both from the puck, and from the guys with the stripes. Seems like not much has changed from the regular season.
Also, someone has to check who the hell is keeping shot totals at the Art Hauser Centre. There is no way the Raiders had 50 shots on goal tonight. The 22 in the first period were very legit as they played great, but they surely did not have 28 the rest of the way. Both Les Lazaruk agreed on the drive home that something around 40 was likely a little more accurate.
Both goalies played well, with Jamie Tucker starting and making 37 saves for the win. Steven Stanford was the tough luck loser, stopping 44 shots in the loss. He was definitely not the reason why the Blades fell.
These two teams do it all again tomorrow night for game 4. The win by PA also assured the series will go atleast 5, with that coming Saturday night in Saskatoonn.
I will try to have a preview up for game 4 by early tomorrow afternoon.
