Saskatoon Blades Clinch Scotty Munro Trophy With Win in Brandon

It was a great team effort as the Saskatoon Blades won in Brandon tonight 5-3.

That win gives them a franchise record for most points in a season with 106.

It also means the Blades can't be caught by any team down the stretch, winning the Scotty Munro Trophy.

The teams 52 wins also ties a franchise record.

The teams went scoreless through the first period tonight.

Saskatoon got off to a good start in the 2nd period, 2-0 off of goals from 16 year olds Ryan Olsen and Levi Bews. After that, whenever the Wheaties pushed back, Saskatoon had an answer as the teams traded goals back and forth all the way til the end of the game.

The Blades got their goals from Bews, Olsen, Curtis Hamilton and two from Marek Viedensky. Hamilton's was the winner. One of Viedensky's was shorthanded, his 5th of the year and 19th for the team. That total is alone atop the WHL.

The Wheat Kings got their markers from 16 year old Ryan Pulock, Mark Stone and Hampus Gustafsson.

Steven Stanford earned the win in the Blades net. Saskatoon won despite only killing off 3 of 5 penalties tonight.

These two teams meet up again on Friday night.
